How to Deal with An Unsupportive Friend, Colleague, Family Member

When someone tells you that you can’t do something, the odds aren’t in your favor, you’re not ready for that challenge….

Remember…

Their interpretation of what is possible for you is their interpretation.

Chances are, they are thinking about something they couldn’t do because the odds weren’t in their favor, they weren’t ready, they couldn’t achieve it.

Never let anyone tell you what you can’t do.

Learn. Grow. Accept Feedback. Pivot. Fail a Couple Times. Grow Again. Succeed.

So many times in my life, I’ve heard the news that I couldn’t do something.

Live through a hospitalization

Get off disability

Get on national news

Become a Zumba instructor with 40% lung function

Scale a 6 figure company from a hospital bed

Write a best-selling personal growth book

Keynote conferences around the world

Travel with my health conditions

And guess what…

Here I am, doing all of that sh*t. And guess where I will be next year? Doing more of that.

Why?

Because someone telling me I can’t, makes me want to more.

There are times when their words have impact.

Example:

I wanted to be a Zumba instructor at a time when I was wheel-chair bound due to declining lung functions from the complications of Cystic Fibrosis. When I was telling people of my ultimate goal, obviously they were concerned.

I mean… come on.

The people saying it weren’t in peak shape.
They weren’t healthy.

Then I started researching people with chronic illnesses who became athletes.

And brainwashed myself to learn how they did it.

NOTE: When I got my license and started teaching, do you think I was the best instructor?
HECK NO!

I had people walk out of my class all the time.
I wasn’t even at a lung function where I could teach a whole class.

But I did it.

I trained harder, longer, and more efficiently than anyone else in my instructor class.

I memorized routines, bought the cds, studied, danced, and dedicated the better part of an entire year to making this happen. Regardless of where my health was at.

And you can too.

Attack your goals with pig headed discipline.

Attack your dreams with a system and a process.

Listen to those you want to model – not those who couldn’t accomplish something.

You’ve got this.

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

P.s. I was even featured on their blog, Insta, and magazine….
